SAINT PAUL (January 31, 2017) The Saint Paul Almanac is ready to share the stunning work of the first six local poets and six local visual artists whose work will appear on Metro Transit trains and buses as a part of the IMPRESSIONS project. On Thursday, March 1, at 7 p.m., the Almanac will host the first release party for IMPRESSIONS at Golden’s Lowertown.

In partnership with Metro Transit, Intersection, and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s Knight Arts Challenge, the Almanac is bringing together the work of 24 local writers and 24 local artists. Six broadsides will be published and produced each quarter, 24 broadsides for the year, inside 100 trains and buses in the Twin Cities and on bus kiosks and train platforms. Each broadside is a unique poster of a local poet’s poem combined with a local artist’s work as a reflection of that poem.

This first release party will feature the first six broadsides featuring the work of the first six poets and six artists. The following poets and artists are featured in the Spring release:

“I don’t know if anyone ever told you” – Annette Marie Smith, art by Jeremy Downie

“The Green Line” – Michael Kleber-Diggs, art by Ellen Larsen

“Migration” – Casey Patrick, art by Katey Langer

“Saint Paul Public Library” – M. Wright, art by Leah Fargo

“4.22.16” – Madeline Reding, art by Kenneth Caldwell

“City Dawn” – Anne Thompson, art by Elena Renken

The IMPRESSIONS release party will feature a reading by the selected authors. Visual artists will reflect on their work.
