On June 18th from 7-9pm, we gathered for our 5th Annual Global Poetry Celebration to hear poetry read out loud in many languages.
Poetry helps us understand and confront the complexities, joys, and challenges of the world and build empathy with the human beings we share it with. And there’s no better way to celebrate the universality of the human experience than by hearing poems in languages both familiar and unfamiliar to us.
This year, we collaborated with our friends at Cracked Walnut to present this reading as part of their monthly Poets & Pints Series! It was held at Sisyphus Brewing.
The event had three parts:
Part 1 – Global Poetry: Reading a poem in a language other than English and then, the English translation.
Part 2 – Poetry NOW. Poetry FOREVER: Contest winners were invited to read their poems.
Part 3 – Open Mic: Anyone can share one poem, in English or another language.
It was a most convivial event that saw a full house at Sisyphus Brewing!

Curator / Host of Poets & Pints
Anthony “Tony” Plocido started writing poetry in high school. However, he didn’t get serious about until about 2009 when he got invited to “The Poetry Filibuster” in Kansas City, MO. This was 5 day, 18-hour long reading. The poets he met there encouraged him to move to Kansas City, MO. This turned his hobby into a passion. He has since published two books. The first, Sucker Punch Wisdom, was published by Write the Future. This was done with two other K.C. poets (Jeremy O’Neal & William Peck). His second book, Aging and Other Side Projects, was released in December 2016. Aging and Other Side Projects is a (mostly) solo book. His third book, Felt This so Many Times, was released in September 2018 from Spartan Press KC. His 4th book, The Conflict that Creates is being released on 8/18/21. In February 2019, he became a Cracked Walnut Board Member. He is a true champion for local poets and the Minneapolis/Saint Paul poetry community!
Tony now lives back in the Twin Cities and tries to perform whenever possible. He also facilitates a workshop to help poets become better performers of poetry. He is also your current curator / host of Poets & Pints and was instrumental in having Saint Paul Almanac’s Global Poetry Celebration at Sisyphus Brewing.
