English Translation

For our lives
placed within
boundaries of darkness ,
She is …… a beacon.
Like the regal moon
peering through dark grey clouds ,
She gives strength and survival
for the darkened earth.
If it is for us,
Her smile hasn’t lessened
even a slightest shade.
With all her strength
and might,
She has provided
Love
and the brightest light.
As we absorb
the waves of her love,
we need to be mindful
of every single moment.
Certainly……..,
if this regal moon disappears
it will be
……….. for an eternity.
We understand
the controversies
of sadness and happiness
flowing along
in this presence of life.
At times,
wild winds
deter her
from galloping as she pleases.
Also,
we despise
the dark grey clouds beside her.
Anticipating
the moon’s departure,
we get up
with every single dog’s bark
amidst the night.
This is what
our lives have become……………

Nu Yin is a Burmese artist well known for her hyperrealistic portraits in Burma. At times, she would write and read poetry as occasion permits. As her art involves support for democracy and creates opposition for the Military Junta, she had to escape from Burma. She left Burma/Myanmar in 2021 and currently resides in St. Paul MN. For the Spring Revolution against the Military Junta, she has contributed and donated several pieces of her artwork. She continues with charitable work as speaker for several events, recites poetry and is involved in fundraising events for the Burmese Community. Recently she recited a poem as a tribute to the detained Burmese Democratic Leader Daw Aung San Su Kyi for her 80th birthday as part of the world movement for democracy.
