September-November 2012 performers at the Soul Sounds Open Mic

The Golden Thyme Coffee Café and the Saint Paul Almanac are pleased to announce September to November performers at the “Soul Sounds Open Mic,” hosted by Tish Jones! The Soul Sounds Open Mic is a platform for encouraging literacy within the Saint Paul community through leadership, mentoring, and relationship building. The “Soul Sounds Open Mic” series is held every Thursday, with a special pre-performance writing workshop on the first Thursday of each month.

Presenting the 2013 Saint Paul Almanac—our seventh edition!

On September 13, 2012, we celebrate the launch of the 2013 Saint Paul Almanac—the indispensable seventh edition of the friendly guidebook to Minnesota’s capital city and Saint Paul’s eclectic community storytelling book of record! This year, the 416-page 2013 Saint Paul Almanac is again available in full color with over 160 photos and illustrations. Our gorgeous, hand-drawn, poster-size, pull-out maps of the City of Saint Paul and Downtown have been newly revised, and this latest edition now includes a pull-out poster of Ta-coumba Aiken’s beautiful illustrations from the Almanac’s Lowertown Reading Jam events. 

Sept–Nov 2012: Readings from the new 2013 Saint Paul Almanac

FINAL THREE READINGS ON NOVEMBER 3RD, 12TH, AND 19TH! The Saint Paul Almanac Readings series takes place from September to November 2012, in coffee bars around the city, featuring writers who were published in the 2013 Saint Paul Almanac reading their poems and stories. Events are free and all ages. Copies of the new 2013 Saint Paul Almanac will be available for purchase at the readings.

Sept 13, 2012: Join us at the 2013 Saint Paul Almanac Book Release Party!

We’ll celebrate in the AZ Gallery, Black Dog Café, and Clouds in Water Zen Center. All are welcome as we celebrate the hot-off-the- press release of the 2013 edition of the Saint Paul Almanac, featuring the work of more than 120 local writers, including Patricia Hampl, J. Otis Powell‽, Margaret Hasse, Mahmoud El-Kati, Sharon Chmielarz, John Minczeski, Ethna McKiernan, Michael Kiesow Moore, Wendy Brown-Baez, and Mike Hazard. Thursday, Sept 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. at 308 Prince Street, Saint Paul, MN 55101.

August 30, 2012 – Soul Sounds Open Mic with Kenna Cottman

The Golden Thyme Coffee Café and the Saint Paul Almanac are pleased to announce the thirteenth “Soul Sounds Open Mic,” hosted by Tish Jones! The “Soul Sounds Open Mic” series is held every Thursday, with a special pre-performance writing workshop on the first Thursday of each month. The thirteenth “Soul Sounds Open Mic” is presented on Thursday, August 30th, 2012, and features Kenna Cottman. The event takes place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Golden Thyme Coffee Café at 921 Selby Avenue (corner of North Milton Street) in Saint Paul. All ages are welcome, and there is no cover charge.

August 2, 2012 – Soul Sounds Open Mic & writing workshop with The Lioness

The Golden Thyme Coffee Café and the Saint Paul Almanac are pleased to announce the ninth “Soul Sounds Open Mic,” hosted by Tish Jones, on Thursday, August 2nd, 2012, and featuring the Lioness, winner in the “Best Knowledge Spitta” category at the 6th Annual 2012 Twin Cities Hip Hop Music Awards. The event takes place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Golden Thyme Coffee Café at 921 Selby Avenue (corner of North Milton Street) in Saint Paul. All ages are welcome, and there is no cover charge. The First Thursday writing workshop will be held an hour before the open mic begins, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. At every “Soul Sounds Open Mic” there is a sign-up process, where name and contact info will be collected. Each performer will have five minutes on stage. Although performances are uncensored, please be mindful of underage audiences.
